Choosing the best child care provider is one of the most important decisions you may ever make for your child. Recent studies show that children accomplish a large part of their brain development by age five and that the environment in which they spend their first few years of life has a profound impact on their social, emotional and intellectual growth. Every county has a Child Care Services Resource and Referral (R&R) office that is funded by the state to assist parents in locating licensed child care and help them know what to look for when choosing a child care provider. Reviewing these materials helps ensure parents will become knowledgeable about what to look for and what questions to ask when researching child care options for their family. Parents should be prepared to take some time when they are choosing child care and it is highly recommended that they spend time observing at a prospective child care location before they consider enrolling their child. After the decision has been made and the child is enrolled, it is also recommended that parents drop in un-announced from time to time to make sure their child is happily engaged and is safe and healthy at all times.
