This year’s 3rd Annual Community Giveaway Day hosted by The Yolo County Children’s Alliance was a huge success. Held at Westfield Village Elementary School in West Sacramento on Saturday, November 21, 2009, the event served more than 1,000 individuals! With contributions from the West Sacramento Grocery Outlet and the Yolo County Food Bank, hundreds of bags filled with complete Thanksgiving dinners (including a ham, pasta, potatoes, bread, vegetables and other foods) were passed out. St. Joseph’s Catholic Church provided a mobile mall that gave away shoes, jackets, pants, and a wide variety of other clothing items for men, women and children. Additionally, hundreds of hand-woven blankets were donated by Project Linus, and the community pitched in to donate hundreds of other clothing items, household items, and children’s toys, books and games. Furthermore, Glass West, Inc. donated over $3,000 worth of winter jackets for children while First 5 Yolo, Sutter Health, Wells Fargo, CalSters, the YCCA Board of Directors and other Yolo County businesses and individuals greatly contributed to the success of the giveaway.
With over 30 high school and adult volunteers, the event ran smoothly and without incident. The Yolo County Children's Alliance would like to thank the Westfield Elementary School and its staff, the West Sacramento Grocery Outlet, Yolo County Food Bank, St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Wells Fargo, Project Linus, Glass West Inc., Sutter Health, CalSters, First 5 Yolo, the YCCA Board of Directors and all of the other contributors, volunteers and staff. We look forward to working with all of our collaborators in the future and we are excited about the opportunity to continue hosting the Community Giveaway and serving the community of Yolo County.
