Yolo County Community Health Goal
2004-05

In November 2003, the Yolo County Children’s Alliance & Child Abuse Prevention Council culminated the significant first phase of its history by distributing The Yolo County Children’s Portfolio, a review of 36 indicators organized according to five distinct community goals. After the release of the Portfolio, the first annual Yolo County Children’s Summit took place in order to review the Portfolio and to set priorities among its Goals and Indicators. The highest priority selected was the incidence of childhood obesity in Yolo County.

The Goals of the Yolo County Children’s Alliance in combating childhood obesity and promoting lasting nutrition and fitness behaviors include:

  • Raise community awareness to the serious health and life consequences of obesity
  • Improve understanding of the importance of balanced nutrition and physical activity
  • Work with the community to ensure public schools are in compliance with nutrition laws
  • Address the issue of marketing to children to help build the public will to make appropriate changes
  • Report measurable changes in the next Yolo County Children’s Portfolio
