West Sacramento, CA. On Saturday, November 19, Yolo County Children’s Alliance (YCCA) hosted its 17th annual Community Giveaway Day at their Family Resource Center in West Sacramento. The event served nearly 700 families, providing them with Thanksgiving meal kits, COVID-19 vaccinations, winter resources, and coats for every child aged 0-17. As a region, Yolo County has seen an increase in families facing food insecurity, homelessness, and an influx in refugees arriving with limited support and basic resources. The increase in need this year was expected. YCCA was able to convene partners, donors, and volunteers to provide support and resources to the most families ever in the history of this event.

Community Giveaway Day is more than a health fair; it’s an opportunity to empower and celebrate our community. The families who attend Community Giveaway Day often are the lowest income families in the County, facing increased economic and sociocultural stressors. YCCA’s mission for this event remains focused on creating a celebratory event that empowers families and brings the community together.

“Access to essential resources, like food, clothing, baby supplies and healthcare reduces stress in a household, increasing the capacity for families to create safe and nurturing environments for their children. Community Giveaway Day, with the support of our partners and funders, is a catalyst for YCCA to provide concrete supports to those who need it most in our community,” said Francisco Castillo, Board Chair of the Yolo County Children’s Alliance. “Community Giveaway Day is a one-of-a-kind event, and it’s because of the hours of preparation the YCCA team puts into it, and the dollars and supplies collected from funders and partners. This event truly emulates the passion behind our mission as a premier non-profit in Yolo County: to strengthen and empower families in our community.”

“Yolo County Children’s Alliance Community Giveaway Day provides 28,000 pounds of food to families in need as well as essential resources including COVID vaccinations, and health resources. Sutter Health is proud to be a longtime sponsor of this event that supports families of the highest need in the County, which aligns with identified priority health needs according to our recent community health needs assessment,” said Tammy Powers, Chief Administrative Officer of Sutter Davis Hospital. “Events like this create opportunities for community building while enhancing the health and well-being of people in the communities we serve.”

This year, we were able to bring together more partners, donors, volunteers, and sponsors than ever before as we collectively worked together to supporting the community. We would like to extend our gratitude to the County of Yolo, the City of West Sacramento and their Police Department, Yolo County Office of Education, Washington Unified School District, the Yolo Food Bank, Waste Management, the Walmart Foundation, Nugget Markets, Sutter Health, Kaiser, First 5 Yolo, PG&E, Union Pacific, Yolo Federal Credit Union, Five Star Bank, Bogle Wines, Hawkins Home Loans, Project Linus of Yolo County, and the many businesses and local non-profits who hosted coat drives for this event. It takes a village; we would not be able to serve the community without your support.

This holiday, YCCA is looking forward to enthusiastic support from the community for our annual Holiday Toy Distribution event on December 17, 2022! Yolo County families will receive non-perishable food, household items, winter supplies, and toys for their children. YCCA is in need of new toys for all ages and is looking for support from the community to bring more than 900 children holiday joy! To join the community in supporting this event, partners are encouraged to donate online at www.YoloKids.org/Donate, or email katie.durham@yolocounty.org.
