Yolo County Children’s Alliance kicks off Valentine’s Day themed Canned Food Drive
Food Drive aims to redefine season of love to include helping others

Press Release

Davis, California — In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, Yolo County Children’s Alliance is asking the community to ‘spread the love’ to those in need. To that end, Yolo County Children’s Alliance is collecting canned and dry goods beginning Friday, February 10 through Tuesday, February 21, 2017.  All items benefit YCCA’s West Sacramento Family Resource Center’s Emergency Food Pantry, which supports families in need throughout the year, and clients in our Step by Step/Paso a Paso home visiting program.

“During the holiday season, we try to assist as many clients as possible, which can deplete our emergency panty reserves. Until we’re able to restock the pantry, we often have to turn away clients,” notes Yolo County Children’s Alliance Executive Director Katie Villegas. “We are organizing this food drive to help to help us restock it so we can continue to respond to community needs. We plan the drive around the Valentine’s Day holiday to emphasize that generosity and support for our neighbors is also an expression of love. More so now than ever, hunger is a reality in every town, not only in our most challenged communities and it’s important that we do what we can to help.”

Yolo County Children’s Alliance wants to emphasize “giving the good stuff,” and encourage families to donate the kinds of foods that have the most impact at a pantry—such as peanut butter, canned tuna fish, and canned vegetables—rather than less nutritious snack items or even simply those foods from the back of the cabinet that rarely get eaten.

Supporters can track the success of “Spread the Love” food drive and the efforts of participating businesses throughout the county on the Yolo County Children’s Alliance Facebook page (www.facebook.com/yolocountychildrensalliance).
