What We Do

Overview

What We Do

Parenting can be a stressful and overwhelming job and that added stress only makes it harder. We know that there is no one singular formula for raising children; rather, it’s a hundred little things that make the biggest impact on a child’s health, safety, and wellbeing. That’s where we come in; we lead, coordinate, connect, support, educate, and advocate – EVERY DAY – to help parents reach their goals.

We LEAD the county’s community health initiative to ensure ALL children within Yolo County, and their families, have health insurance and access to health services. We COORDINATE with agencies throughout Yolo to maximize efforts. We CONNECT families to community resources. We SUPPORT 1st time parents with one-on-one guidance. We EDUCATE parents and caregivers on infant care and safety. We ADVOCATE on behalf of families for better parks, safer routes to school, or for healthier food.

A Family Strengthening Approach

Strategically, all our programs align with and are informed by The Strengthening Families™ Framework, a research-informed approach to increasing family strengths, enhancing child development, and reducing child abuse and neglect. Created by the Center for the Study of Social Policy, it focuses on building 5 Protective Factors in families:

  • Parental Resilience
  • Social Connections
  • Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development
  • Concrete Support in Times of Need
  • Social and Emotional Competence of Children

Community Collaboration & Advocacy

YCCA also convenes community partners and fosters connections among organizations in order to increase countywide collaboration. These efforts are aimed at empowering Yolo County families to be healthy and strong and offering children the best chance of thriving and growing.
